Quick Dylan Update

Well the antifungal treatment is over and now we are saving up for the next doctor visit...more testing...and the next round of treatments.  Based on past conversations with the doc, we will likely be starting B12 injections or detoxification.  I am so grateful for the progress he has made already and for motivation to keep going even though it is taking every last penny we have.  My biggest source of encouragement comes from Joanna over at Drew's Autism Recovery Diary.  Check out THIS video of her son who is 9 days younger than Dylan and has gone through all the treatments already.  This sort of recovery is what we are praying for!  Joanna you are my hero!

We are planning our next trip to Austin for February or March, at which time I'll get to meet my new blogging buddy Darcy from The Dealyo.  She's a fellow frugal mom blogger and Austinite and I can't wait to meet her!  I'll update the blog when I know more about what is coming next by way of treatments.

Now onto the update.  In the past few days, Dylan has:

-Tried to start his own bath.  He never goes into a dark room and can't reach the light switch, but he went in, pulled back the curtain and turned on the faucet.  When I heard water running, I ran in to find him undressing himself in the dark.  Jeesh.  Happy he is learning independence but now I have 1,000 more things to worry about!

-Opened the front door by himself.  He didn't go outside, but he was about to!  Luckily I was standing right there.  Note to self: need 16 new door locks.

-Ate a saltine cracker that one of his siblings left on the table.  He has an extremely self-limited diet that literally consists of seven things.  He never ever eats anything else, even when I want him to.  And of course this was NOT a gluten free cracker.  I am reluctantly considering the possibility that the doctor was right, and I will eventually need to switch the whole family to gluten-free.  Or maybe my bagels and I will just move to the garage...

-Tried to sing Itsy Bitsy Spider and do the corresponding hand motions.  It sounded something link "bissa-bissa-baaa".  I'll take it.

  1. Oh my goodness. First, I am so very excited about the progress Dylan is making. I know hearing those words is music to your ears. Trust me, I know! Second, thank you so much for your kind words. It makes me feel like I'm actually making a contribution in "this" world. Please keep in touch with me.
