More Amazing Firsts

Wow!  This antifungal treatment is working wonders.  We are about 19 days into the 21 day treatment and the past two days have been the best ever for Dylan!  He has been nonverbal with no functional form of communication up until a few weeks ago when he started signing for "more".  But that was all he could do.

Last week (about 10 days into his antifungal treatment), he started saying "bullah-bullah" for balloon which was huge because it was a consistent vocalization for something.  Before this he would occasionally mimic words that I said, but it was always a one-time thing and the word would never return.  Now take a look at what he has learned to do in the past two days:

1) I have been trying for three years to get him to wave and say "bye bye" or "night night" and tonight he did it without help or prompting!  He waved and said "ni-night" in response to my saying it!  Huge!

2) Earlier today when I walked into the room his face lit up and he ran to me and said "hug hug hug".  Ordinarily there is a 50-50 chance he wouldn't even notice if I walked in a room.  And if he ever did notice he certainly wouldn't say anything. Since this time, he has said "hug" more than a dozen times!

3) He grabbed my hand and said "c'mon".

4) He is consistently saying "buh" for ball and "bub-bub" for bubbles.

5) He consistently says "cookie" when he wants one.  That was a word he rarely ever said (like maybe 5-6 times in his life).  But now he says it every time.

6) He will sign and say "muh" for rice milk consistently.  He has never asked for it with sign or vocalizations.  Before this weekend I would have to do hand-over-hand to get him to sign for it.

7) He is repeating us when we say "all done".  Never ever ever before had he done this.

Other words he is saying during our play together:
-squish
-konk
-catch it
-ribbit

He is also more alert and watchful of the activities of others. Today is a good day!
